The mission of Smart Beginnings Danville Pittsylvania (SBDP) is to ensure that as many children as possible are ready for success in school and in life. SBDP was founded in 2008 and promotes and supports school readiness in the City of Danville and in Pittsylvania County.

Our partners include both school systems, private child care providers, family child care providers, Head Start, medical community, business leaders, families, Community Services Board, Department of Social Services, faith based organizations, Health Department, and concerned citizens.

Core strategies:
  • Increase the availability of resources for parents, appropriate for their education, interests, and needs.
  • Provide information to assist parents in recognizing and requesting high quality child care services.
  • Increase the percentage of children identified as in need of early intervention services.
  • Increase participation of early child care providers in the Virginia Star Quality Initiative.

Kindergarten Registration

Don't forget, kindergarten registration has begun in Danville and Pittsylvania County.
If you are not sure what attendance zone you live in, call Danville Public School Board Office at 799-6400 or Pittsylvania County Schools at 432-2761.
Registration forms can be picked up at the school or school board office. To complete the registration process, you need your child's official birth certificate, school entrance health form and three proof of residency documents (ID, utilities bill, rent statement, etc.).
